Argentina Citizenship by Investment: Program Status

On 2 October 2026, Argentina’s Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, announced the investment terms of Argentina’s new Citizenship by Investment program. The legal basis is already in place: Decree 366/2025 amended the Citizenship Law so that foreign nationals who make a qualifying investment can be naturalised regardless of how long they have lived in Argentina, and Decree 524/2025 created the Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs within the Ministry of Economy.

Applications are expected to open in Q4 2026. The implementing regulations have not yet been published, so the figures below reflect the announced terms and may change. John Hu Migration is following the program closely and can help you prepare your documents in advance.

    Argentina Citizenship by Investment FAQ

    • When can I apply for Argentina citizenship by investment?

The Argentine government announced the investment terms on 2 October 2026, and applications are expected to open in Q4 2026. The implementing regulations and exact opening date have not yet been published. Police certificates and source-of-funds evidence take time, so interested applicants can start preparing now.

    • How much does Argentina citizenship by investment cost?

A single applicant can choose a non-refundable USD 350,000 contribution to the National Treasury or a USD 800,000 subscription in an Argentine sovereign bond. Under the contribution route, a spouse adds USD 100,000 and each child under 18 adds USD 25,000, so a family of four totals about USD 500,000.

    • Do I need to live in Argentina?

No. There is no prior residence period, and no ongoing residence requirement is currently expected. At least one visit to Argentina may be required at the approval stage for biometrics or formalities.

    • Which family members can be included?

Based on the announced terms, the spouse, children under 18, and unmarried children aged 18–24 without children of their own can be included. Parents and grandparents have not been announced as eligible and may need separate applications.

    • Does Argentine citizenship make me an Argentine tax resident?

Argentina taxes mainly on the basis of tax residence, so citizenship alone generally does not make you an Argentine tax resident. Your position depends on your own circumstances, so take professional tax advice before applying.
